I Caught My First Ever King Salmon! | Salmon River, NY

Every year, around September and October, king salmon ascend Lake Ontario tribs, including the Salmon River, to spawn and then die. While their deaths fuel the incredible steelhead fishery that I've enjoyed over the years, I had never fished for salmon due to the stories of large crowds and fistfights breaking out over lost fish. However, this year I decided to risk it and head up around Labor Day, before the bulk of the run and the crowds. Although the fishing was a grind due to the lower densities of fish in the rivers, I managed to put a few kings in the net, including my first ever! Hope you guys enjoy this video!
