Types of Rocks - How Rocks Are Classified

How do scientists classify the rocks found on Earth? In this middle school (grades 6-8) Earth and Space Science video, students explore the three main types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. They will learn that rocks are classified by how they form rather than by what they look like. By the end of the lesson, they will understand how each type of rock forms and why their characteristics help scientists identify them.
