Have you ever wondered how farmers made hay before tractors, balers, and modern hay equipment?
In this video, we take a trip through the history of haymaking—from farmers swinging scythes and using hand rakes and pitchforks, to horse-drawn equipment, and finally to the tractors, disc mowers, tedders, rakes, balers, and bale wagons we use today.
Making hay has always been about the same basic things: cutting grass, drying it, gathering it, and storing it for livestock. But the equipment used to accomplish those jobs has changed dramatically.
We'll look at how each major innovation made haymaking faster, more efficient, and less dependent on backbreaking manual labor.
And at the end, we'll compare the old-fashioned way of making hay with the modern equipment we use here at Froghop Farms.
🌾 From the scythe to the modern baler, this is the incredible story of haymaking.
