The results of the 2026 MLC elections across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Karnataka have delivered a mixed verdict for the NDA and the INDIA bloc. The BJP-led NDA won 16 of the 28 seats, while INDIA bloc parties secured 9. But the numbers tell only part of the story. The Samajwadi Party improved its tally in Uttar Pradesh, winning key seats in Varanasi and Lucknow, while the BJP faced setbacks in its strongholds, including Nagpur. In Bihar, the RJD defeated a BJP veteran in Patna, and Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj opened its account in the Legislative Council. Maharashtra saw the opposition alliance take the lead, exposing differences within the ruling Mahayuti. Karnataka, meanwhile, delivered a clean sweep for the NDA.
