Day 2 of the Niihama Taiko Festival in Ehime, a night festival often called one of Japan's top 3 "fighting festivals": 17 decorated floats weighing 3–4 tons each gathered in front of a station. In the "kakikurabe" carrying contest, teams of about 150 people take the wheels off and lift the whole float above their heads, competing for honor, not prize money. Before the festival, I found a ¥300-an-hour coworking space for my uploads and took a quiet walk through my wife's hometown. ☕ Support the channel on Buy Me a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kazuinjapan 📍 Chapters 0:00 Festival Morning 1:27 Finding a Coworking Space 12:00 A Walk Through a Quiet Town 17:11 What Is a Taikodai? 20:07 The Floats Gather at the Station 24:51 Kakikurabe: The Carrying Contest 30:43 The Rankings 38:34 No Fights Tonight, and What I Felt #Japan #NiihamaTaikoFestival #JapaneseFestival #Ehime #KazuInJapan
