Eve, the Snake & the Tree of Life

What happens when we don’t just think about spiritual symbols, but explore them through the moving body? What if, instead of reading about the snake as a symbol of transformation, you let your spine become the snake? This Qi Gong class was inspired by Janet Rudolph’s powerful SheSpeaks project and ensemble, giving voice to women of the Bible including Eve, Naamah, Miriam and Zipporah. We move with some of the rich archetypal imagery that emerged from their stories: the snake with its belly close to the earth, the Tree of Life with roots and branches, primordial waters, the seeds of life, the drum of the heart, and the cycles of shedding and renewal.
