Grand Prix Circuit • DSI / Accolade (PC DOS 1988) • Full Championship / Hardest Level

Grand Prix Circuit was developed by Distinctive Software Inc and released by Accolade in 1988 for C64 and PC. In 1989 it was ported to Amiga and Mac and in 1990 to Spectrum and Amstrad. At the time it was considered as a pretty advanced Formula 1 racing simulator with 3 cars to drive: Ferrari 187/88C, McLaren MP4/4 and Williams FW12 across 8 race tracks where you compete against 9 fictitious opponents. For the time it was pretty impressive, but remember that one year later Indianapolis 500 came out. It's another childhood game that I experienced on PC in 1988/89 when my dad took me to the school he worked in and left me in a computer science classroom (we didn't had a computer at home at the time). The guy there showed me how to move around in Norton Commander and how to launch games with the files that ended with .exe or .com or .bat extensions - and so I started exploring. I recall there being few games, but I only remember Mach 3 which I played maybe few minutes after discovering Grand Prix Circuit, which consumed the rest of the time I spent there. My memory is fuzzy, but the PC I played it on must have been something like IBM PC/XT (maybe AT?) with CGA graphics card tops. It still blew my mind back then. I played it again after I got an Amiga 500, but never really seriously. This time not only I will try to win the championships, but I will do it on the hardest difficulty level. The only track that I practiced few times was the first one (you can see my name in the highscore already), but the last time I have driven on the rest of the tracks was probably 30 years ago.
