What happens when you keep saying yes to work, but your body begins saying no? In today’s episode of ReClaim Her, I share how workplace trauma affected my mental, emotional, and physical well-being and resulted in my diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. The most visible warning signs were my anger and mood changes. What others could not always see was that I constantly felt on guard. I had trouble sleeping and relaxing, struggled to concentrate, and began avoiding reminders of work. Eventually, I began experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. Because I was still working, meeting my responsibilities, and helping others, I treated my ability to function as evidence that I was okay. I kept asking my body to adjust to the workload and environment instead of asking whether something around me needed to change. Functioning does not always mean you are well, and self-care cannot correct every harmful environment. Your body should not have to reach a breaking point before you listen to it. As you watch, consider this question: What has your body been trying to tell you that you have been too busy, afraid, or overwhelmed to acknowledge? Share your answer in the comments, or write, “I am learning to listen to myself.” Subscribe and join the ReClaim Her community as we continue the journey back to ourselves. This episode reflects my personal experience and diagnosis. These symptoms can have many causes and do not automatically mean someone has PTSD.
