What if you had to build your entire ball python breeding program through a FANTASY DRAFT? In this episode of **Breeder Underground**, Josh and Trevor go head-to-head in **The Fantasy Gene Draft**! We're putting ball python genetics on the draft board and taking turns selecting the genes we'd want to build our hypothetical breeding programs around. But there's a catch: *Once a gene is drafted, it's OFF THE BOARD.* If Josh takes Clown, Trevor can't use Clown. If Trevor grabs Desert Ghost, Josh better have another plan. That means every pick matters—and waiting too long could cost you the gene your entire strategy depended on. 🧬 THE DRAFT RULES Josh and Trevor each get *10 picks* to build the strongest breeding program possible. 🐍 Any established ball python gene can be drafted. 🚫 Once a gene is selected, the other breeder cannot use it. 🔄 Picks alternate between Josh and Trevor. 🧬 Recessive, incomplete dominant, dominant—it doesn't matter. 🎯 The objective isn't necessarily to draft today's most expensive genes. The goal is to build the breeding program we'd most want to own for the **next 5–10 years**. 🥇 What Deserves the #1 Pick? This could get controversial fast. Do you take: 🔥 Clown? 👻 Desert Ghost? 🥧 Pied? 🧬 Monsoon? 🌅 Sunset? Or do you skip the obvious choices and build around something completely different? 📊 Draft Strategy We're not just picking our favorite genes. Every selection has to work with the genetics we've already drafted. We'll have to think about: Visual potential Recessive compatibility Multi-gene combinations Market demand Long-term project potential Genetic versatility What the other guy might draft next Sometimes the best available gene might NOT be the best gene for your program. 😈 Stealing Each Other's Picks This is where things should get interesting. If you know the other breeder desperately needs a certain gene... *Do you draft it first just to keep them from getting it?* We're talking strategy, reaches, steals, sleeper picks, and probably some questionable draft decisions. 🏆 Who Built the Better Program? Once all 20 genes are off the board, we'll compare the two collections. Which breeder has: 🧬 Better genetic compatibility? 🎨 Better visual potential? 💰 Better marketability? 🔮 Better long-term upside? 🐍 Better overall projects? And ultimately... *Who won the Fantasy Gene Draft?* We're letting YOU decide. Questions We Explore: ❓ What's the #1 overall gene in ball pythons today? ❓ Which recessive would you build an entire collection around? ❓ Which genes have the best 5–10 year potential? ❓ Which genes are valuable because of what they unlock rather than what they look like alone? ❓ What's the biggest sleeper gene in the hobby? ❓ Which popular gene would you surprisingly leave UNDRAFTED? ❓ Would you prioritize visual quality or market potential? 📌 *Resources & Links* Learn more about our breeding projects and available animals at *[www.theballlabs.com](http://www.theballlabs.com)* Follow us on Instagram: @BreederUnderground @ball.labs @CriticalHitExotics 👍 Like, subscribe, and most importantly... *YOU'RE ON THE CLOCK!* Tell us in the comments: *If you had the #1 overall pick in the Ball Python Fantasy Gene Draft, what gene are you taking?* #TheBreederUnderground #FantasyGeneDraft #BallPythonBreeding #BallPythonGenetics #BallPythonMorphs #SnakeBreeders #BreedingStrategy #BallLabs #CriticalHitExotics #ReptilePodcast 🎙️ New to streaming or looking to level up?
