What do letters mean in algebra? In this first Algebra 1 lesson, we’ll break down an expression, substitute numbers for variables, and use expressions to describe everyday situations.
Free practice worksheet: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c8hS...
Answer key: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YPAF...
We’ll cover:
• Variables, coefficients, and constants
• Why 3m means 3 × m
• Evaluating expressions by substituting values
• What happens when a variable equals zero
• Writing expressions for ride costs and notebook orders
• Why 4 + 3m and 7m are not equivalent expressions
Pause when prompted and try each problem before watching the solution. After the lesson, work through the practice worksheet, then use the answer key to check your reasoning.
This is Lesson 1 of my Algebra 1 course. Each lesson builds on the ideas introduced before it.
