Everyone's Focused on Lake Mead's Low Water. The Bigger Problem Is Inside the Dam

Lake Mead finished August 2026 at 1,038.83 feet, the lowest since the lake first filled in the 1930s. The line that matters at Hoover Dam is 1,035. At that elevation, according to the Bureau of Reclamation's own July 2026 report, twelve of the dam's seventeen turbines stop and generating capacity falls from 1,274 megawatts to 382. I spent thirty five years inspecting dams and bridges. Last time I read you a memo about four pipes at the bottom of Glen Canyon Dam. This is the next dam down the same river, and the document is the same federal report: Technical Appendix 15 of the Post-2026 Colorado River Final Environmental Impact Statement.
