Gyotaku: The Art of Printing Fish with Dwight Hwang and Michael VanHartingsveldt

On September 26, 2020, the Catalina Island Museum held its virtual Members Only event related to the "Soot and Water: Gyotaku Records of Catalina" exhibition. Guest Curator Michael VanHartingsveldt shared the history of the gyotaku, artist Dwight Hwang's process and special highlights from the exhibition. Our Avalon youth showed us their artistic skills in their own version of gyotaku printing and the museum's Executive Director Julie Perlin Lee shared news about our upcoming fundraiser and the future plans for this exhibition since most were unable to see it in person.
