This week we review the CH and PH digraphs in larger words. We remind ourselves that CH has three sounds. It can make a /ch/ sound in words like chin and chop, a /sh/ sound in words like chef and machine, or a /k/ sound in words like ache and school. This week we focus on the /k/ sound, which usually appears in words of Greek origin, and can be used at the beginning, middle, or end of a word. We also practice reading and writing words that use PH to make a /f/ sound in multisyllabic words like nephew and orphan. As we discuss the meanings of each word on the list, we label nouns and verbs. We review proper nouns, plural nouns, and compound words. We also explore the Greek root PHON, which means sound. Purchase Mrs. Rhoades’ grade 4 book or others from her 180 Days series at teachercreatedmaterials.com or from your favorite online bookseller. #180days #180daysofspellingandwordstudy #4thgrade #4thgradespellingcurriculum #spelling #wordstudy #elementaryeducation #elementaryschool #homeschooling #homeschool #school #morphology #phonics #english #englishlanguagelearners #fourthgrade #vocabulary #science of reading
