The eleventh highest mountain in South Korea

Yew tree.
학명 Taxus cuspidata Sieb. et Zucc.

Duwibong
Duwibong Mountain
(Duwibong): Du (a unit of volume), Wi (to surround/enclose), Bong (peak)
The eleventh-highest mountain in South Korea
Height (Sinseonbong Peak): 1,466 m / 4,810 ft
▶ Duwibong is a mountain with an elevation of 1,466 meters, situated across the border of Jeongseon-gun (Sindong-eup, Sabuk-eup, and Nam-myeon) and Yeongwol-gun (Sansol-myeon) in Gangwon State. Due to its thick, rounded shape, it is also known as "Duribong" (meaning "round peak"), and it is a mountain mentioned in the lyrics of *Jeongseon Arirang*.
Key Features
• Royal Azalea Colony: A vast colony of royal azaleas (*Cheoljjuk*) exists near the summit; the Duwibong Royal Azalea Festival is held here annually between late May and June.
• Natural Monument Yew Trees: Three ancient yew trees, estimated to be between 1,100 and 1,400 years old, grow near the ridgeline at an altitude of 1,300 meters. Confirmed as some of the oldest trees in South Korea through growth-core analysis, they were designated as a Natural Monument in 2002.
• Hiking Courses: Hikers typically start from Dangok Valley or Dosagok (Gwangwon Recreational Area) to visit the summit and the yew tree colony, utilizing either a round-trip route or a traverse course.
▶ Duwibong (also known as Duribong) is a mountain with an elevation of 1,466 meters, spanning Bangje-ri (Sindong-eup), Sabuk-ri (Sabuk-eup), and Mureung-ri (Nam-myeon) in Jeongseon-gun, as well as Jikdong-ri (Sansol-myeon) in Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon State, South Korea. It is a mountain ridge that branches off from Hambaeksan Mountain on the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range.
As a high mountain reaching the 1,400-meter range, it is massive in scale; its main ridge forms a cross shape at the summit, with ridges extending in all directions for a total length exceeding 10 kilometers.
The view from the summit is spectacular, offering panoramas of Mindungsan Mountain to the north, Baegunsan Mountain and Taebaeksan Mountain (to its right) to the east, and Maebongsan Mountain to the south. The main ridge leading to the summit features a vast colony of royal azaleas, prompting Jeongseon-gun to host an annual royal azalea festival.[1]
The name of the Duwibong Formation—part of the Joseon Supergroup, a sedimentary rock layer from the Ordovician period of the Paleozoic Era—is derived from this mountain.
