I Hate Being Black

I'm a first gen college student, I’m traveling, I moved into my own apartment in a big city to start my big boy job… I’ve been hearing this sentiment like every other week. So why does it annoy the ever living heck out of me? It’s because it is a constant reminder of my limitations, that’s how I see. When I started college, or my internship, or my trip to Japan, me being different wasn’t a prominent topic in my mind. All of a sudden, whenever I want to do something that excites me, or is outside of the norm, I get these birds chirping in my ear trying to scare me or dampen my mood. I’ve been caught in this trap before where I’m reducing who I am in an environment against my will because some piece of crap, fraud pseudo-intellectual wants to bring up a fact that I see in the mirror every day.
