We Gave This Guy 16 Joints and a Glowing Face | Wooden Shop Mascot Build

Meet the handmade wooden mascot who'll be watching over every build in our woodworking shop from now on. Every shop has a shape it settles into — the way light falls in the afternoon, the corner where offcuts pile up, the bench that's covered in sawdust by 4pm. Ours needed one more thing: someone to watch it happen. We didn't set out to build a toy. It started as a question about how joints move — how far an arm can bend before it looks wrong, how a hand should sit when it's resting instead of holding something. Sixteen separate joints later, a question about mechanics had turned into a small articulated wooden figure with a glowing head and hands you'd swear had knuckles. The face gave us the most trouble. We tried a few shapes before settling on the one you see — square, warm, lit from inside instead of carved with features. No eyes, no mouth. Somehow that read as more alive than a carved face would have, and it fit the rest of the shop: no faces here, just wood and hands and the work. He'll be showing up in every build from now on — perched on the bench, watching a glue-up, standing somewhere in frame while we work. He doesn't have a name yet.
