Is trade school worth it in Las Vegas? Aaron Clark and Cody from Quality Training Centers pull real questions out of the "Quality Pocket" and answer them honestly, from who owns the school to what happens if you hate it. If you are thinking about an HVAC or electrical career and feel nervous about asking, this one is for you. These are the questions students and future graduates ask us most. WHO OWNS A TRADE SCHOOL, AND HAVE THEY WORKED IN THE TRADES? Yes. The partners who own Quality Training Centers have both worked in the trades and run contracting businesses, which is why the school is built by contractors, for contractors. One of the owners was even pushed into trade school by his parents, and it changed his life. IS THERE ACTUAL WORK IN LAS VEGAS, OR IS IT ALL HYPE? The hosts say there is real work. Contractors tell Aaron they constantly need people, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects growth in both HVAC and electrical. Smaller towns near Las Vegas have fewer openings, but a big city like Las Vegas has plenty. HOW FAST CAN I REALISTICALLY GET HIRED AFTER I FINISH? It depends on you. Some students are hired before they graduate, and others take about a year. The students who move fastest take the opportunities in front of them, update their resume, and practice interviews through career services. HOW DANGEROUS IS GETTING SHOCKED? Electricity is inherently dangerous. A small shock is a wake-up call to slow down and use your meter. A shock that passes through your body is far more serious. Use your tools, verify before you touch, and never get too comfortable. WHAT IF I GET STARTED AND HATE IT? Honest answer: the trades are hard, especially in Las Vegas heat, and the first weeks are an adjustment. If it is not the right fit, talk to the school. HVAC and electrical overlap, so there may be room to pivot without starting over. CAN I OWN MY OWN COMPANY SOMEDAY? Yes. Many trade companies were started by a skilled technician who got hungry and ambitious. Build real experience first, since being the lead tech is not the same as being ready to run a business, and expect it to take years. WILL I BE THE ONLY WOMAN IN THE CLASS? You might be one of a few, but more women are enrolling at Quality Training Centers than before. Bring a friend, make a plan, and go together. Quality Training Centers is a Las Vegas trade school built by contractors, for contractors. HVAC and Electrical programs run 90 days with no experience required.
