Fort Clinch
Fernandina Beach, Florida
Episode 18
The United States started construction of a fort, later named Fort Clinch, in 1847. It was part of the "Third System" of coastal defenses conceived earlier in the century. The fort is pentagonal in shape, and consists of almost five million bricks! Although it never saw combat, the fort would serve the United States all the way up until World War 2. The fort has been restored to it's Civil War era look.
