Purpose: Helps local growers—especially small-scale potato and vegetable farmers from Coonoor, Kotagiri, and Ketti—sell crops directly through organized daily auctions. Founder: Started by H.B. Ari Gowder in Ooty and Mettupalayam. Operations: Operates important trading and auction yards (such as the branch in Mettupalayam) where produce like potatoes are graded by size and color before being sold. Membership: Features thousands of grower members (A-class with voting rights) alongside merchant participants Scale: It is widely recognized as one of the largest trading centers for potatoes in South India, handling massive shipments sourced heavily from the nearby Nilgiris hills and other regions. Operations: Large volumes of potatoes are auctioned, traded, and redistributed daily from here to domestic markets across Tamil Nadu, neighboring states, and for export.
