A routine go-around at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport quickly became a dangerous airborne conflict between two Delta aircraft. Delta Flight 1568, a Boeing 737-900 arriving from Pittsburgh, initiated a go-around after another aircraft failed to clear the runway in time. Meanwhile, Delta Flight 2472, an Airbus A321 departing for Rochester, was climbing away from a nearby runway. The two aircraft were placed on converging flight paths, and the situation deteriorated until both cockpits received TCAS collision-avoidance alerts. Published estimates indicate the aircraft came within approximately 1,800 feet horizontally and 600 feet vertically before the crews followed their resolution advisories and restored separation.
