In this AP Environmental Science instructional video, @samsonsciencevideos covers key concepts regarding the mathematical routines that are most often encountered in the APES curriculum.
This video is intended for high school students enrolled in AP Environmental Science (APES).
This video covers the following topics:
Climate vs. weather
How to read climate graphs
Precipitation shown as a histogram
Temperature shown as a line graph
How to determine a biome using climate graph data
How to determine the hemisphere using climate graph data
How to distinguish between tundra, taiga, temperate, and tropical biomes using climate graphs
How to distinguish between deserts, grasslands, forests, and rainforests using climate graphs
Climate graphs are one of the most important visual analysis tools in AP Environmental Science. In this lesson, you'll learn how to interpret both temperature and precipitation data, recognize seasonal patterns, and use climate graphs to identify Earth's major terrestrial biomes.
You'll discover how average monthly temperature and precipitation influence biome distribution, how to determine whether a location is in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere by examining seasonal temperature trends, and how to differentiate among tundra, taiga, temperate forests, tropical forests, deserts, grasslands, and rainforests using only climate graph data.
This lesson also explains the difference between climate and weather, how precipitation is represented as a histogram, why temperature is displayed as a line graph, and the strategies that make interpreting climate graphs fast and easy on AP-style questions.
This lesson is designed to help students build a strong conceptual understanding of the concepts used for AP Environmental Science coursework, quizzes, tests, and the AP exam.
Whether you're preparing for an upcoming quiz, reviewing for a unit test, or studying for the AP Environmental Science exam, this video will help you confidently interpret climate graphs and identify biomes using real-world data.
