Fidelity ran a study last year that found a healthy 65 year old couple retiring in 2025 can expect to spend about $345,000 on healthcare in retirement. That number is after Medicare. Most people with a health savings account treat it like a checking account for medical bills. They put money in for the deduction, leave it in cash, and drain it every December. If you have other money to pay those bills with, there is a more powerful way to use it. In this video I walk through what a health savings account actually is, who is eligible, what you can contribute in 2026, how it differs from an FSA, and how it fits into a retirement plan. Then I pull up a financial calculator and show you what the money can become if you leave it alone. I am Brennan Decima, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER and the owner of Decima Wealth Consulting. Over the last two decades I have helped thousands of families navigate retirement. If you want help building a plan so healthcare costs do not derail the work you have put in, the link to my calendar is below.
