This video tests the performance of a shovel and an axe. They are directly compared on 10 tasks you might need to accomplish in a survival situation. This gives you a nice overview of situations where a shovel can perform better than an axe and vice versa. It also explains why I chose a shovel instead of an axe for my ultimate challenge in the Alone World Championship.
