NASA has a public tool where anyone
can look at the Moon. You type in
coordinates, zoom in, see the surface.
A theoretical physicist named Maaneli
Derakhshani used it to look at a
crater called Plaskett U near the
north pole.
Blurry. Nothing there.
Then he found a different NASA source,
a higher resolution image published by
the actual LRO science team. Same
coordinates. Different image.
Two structures standing on the crater
rim. Tall enough to cast long shadows
across the surface below them.
He calculated the height using the sun
angle at the time the photo was taken.
95 feet. Roughly the height of the
Artemis II rocket.
In NASA's archive. Not in the public
tool NASA gives you to look at the Moon.
He asked NASA directly why the public
map shows nothing where the archive
shows structures.
Still waiting.
