Verdi - Il Trovatore - Sutherland, Pavarotti, Verrett, Wixell / Bonynge - San Francisco,17 sept 1975

This is another performance of Trovatore from San Francisco, it was the second performance from the series of 6. Originally was the role of Azucena given to Elena Obratsova. According to Joan Sutherlands autobiography, Obratsova did sing the premiere, after that she had a sore throat, therefore had to cancel ! Shirley Verrett took over for one performance. Thats what you will hear here. She was an exellent, very expressive Azucena, so together with Sutherland and Pavarotti it became a real feast. The count di Luna was sung by Ingvar Wixell, he was top quality as well. All in all a dream performance !!! The sound is very fine, so enjoy !!!
