Agent David Hammond's Entire Direct-Exam Testimony In Caleb Flynn's Trial

Special Agent David Hammond of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation testified in Caleb Flynn's trial today (Monday, September 21). This is his entire direct-examination. Flynn is accused of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, as she slept in their home in Tipp City, about 15 miles north of Dayton, early on Feb. 16, 2026. Flynn called 911 about 2:30 a.m. and said an intruder had shot his wife in the head. 24:05 "Again, I couldn't find any damage with that latch bolt, I couldn't find any damage with the deadbolt itself. Both of those locks were unlocked when I examined them. That was really curious." 24:39 "How did the condition of this door compare with the hundreds of burglaries you've worked previously?" "It didn't look right to me." "Why?" "The damage was just inconsistent with any of the other burglaries that I've worked on as a crime scene investigator. ... Typically, we see the deadbolt throw being pushed towards the outside as the door is being pushed inward. The damage on the inside of the frame around that locking, that deadbolt lock receiver, there was pieces of wood that was chipped away, but there was no corresponding damage on the frame." 41:28 "How did you decide where to collect DNA in this case?" "Primarily, we worked off of a statement given by Caleb Flynn. He described an intruder in that north wall of the garage, moving through the garage into the home, into the hallway of the home, and then into the bedroom." "So any place that there was a door handle, and then we we kind of we do some overkill collection, which is like other door handles. They may not have been indicated in that preliminary statement, but we we just try to collect as much as we can, sink sink handles, any place that someone potentially could have touched." 01:08:21 "This is a photograph that shows the overall positioning of Ashley Flynn. You'll notice her left arm is underneath that gray pillow. You'll notice that there's a large amount of blood that's been has saturated the pillow and the sheets below her. You see her right arm or her hand tucked underneath her chin area." 01:39:23 "And when is gunshot residue most probative in an investigation?" "Typically, my understanding of gunshot residue as it pertains to finding it on a suspect is generally within that first two hours."
