Clean iron contact for golfers over fifty, written out properly — Strike It Solid and The Complete Mei Golf Library: https://meigolpro.netlify.app/?b=1&v=...
Thin irons that shoot out low and hot off the bottom of the club? Before your next swing, try this: brush, hold, step in. One practice swing that brushes the grass, a two-count hold on your front foot, and then you step in to the height you just rehearsed. Simple, but genius. Mei built this short routine from a lesson by Feng Shanshan, the first golfer from China to win a major, on shots that come out fat or thin.
In this video:
Fix 1: the silent practice swing (and why it rehearses the wrong height)
Fix 2: arms that shrink at the bottom, and the grip pressure that keeps them long
Fix 3: stand where the swing was — standing up through the ball and how far you stand from it
Fix 4: hold the finish for two (no practice needed)
For the body that has changed: stiff back, new hip or knee, less speed, plus one drill for tonight at home
The key: why the thin shot is a mismatch between your practice swing and your real one, and what Feng does about it
Everything is described for a right-handed golfer; left-handers mirror it.
Four books for golfers over fifty: Strike It Solid (clean iron contact), Quiet Power (an easier driver), The Weekend Short Game (chipping and putting) and Quality Over Hours (practice that shows up on the course, only in the complete Library). Large type, a source for every fact: https://meigolpro.netlify.app/?b=1&v=...
Sources quoted in the video: Feng Shanshan with Keely Levins, Australian Golf Digest (January 2019), and GOLF.com (Dave Phillips on standing too far from the ball, 2021). The routine is Mei's adaptation of Feng's advice; no particular distance or score is promised. Please don't take divots with practice swings on tees or greens.
