Jersey was once Britain's favourite holiday island. Thirty thousand hotel beds filled every summer. Package tourists arrived by sea and air. Celebrities headlined the Battle of Flowers. Then the visitors stopped coming. The hotels became apartment blocks. The railways became footpaths. The harbours went quiet. And something else moved in to fill the gap.
