#DelhiPolice #DelhiNews #PoliceProtest #BreakingNews #DelhiCrime An unusual situation unfolded in Delhi on Monday as police personnel took to the streets against their own department. A large number of Delhi Police officers staged a protest outside the main gate of Police Headquarters, forcing their colleagues to step in to control the demonstration. The protest was triggered by the transfer of two officers, ACP Manasvi Vashishth and former SHO Inspector Arun Kumar, following a dispute between police personnel and lawyers. Cops from Shahdara, East Delhi, North-East Delhi and other districts joined the demonstration, raising slogans in support of the transferred officers. Reports also suggested that some personnel left their police stations to participate in the protest. Several protesters reportedly entered the Police Headquarters premises. Senior officers reached the spot to manage the situation. New Delhi DCP Sachin Sharma was seen trying to persuade the protesting personnel to enter the headquarters and discuss their grievances with senior officials. However, the anger among the police personnel remained evident. The controversy began on October 23, when advocate Lalit Bansal was allegedly attacked by two men following a parking dispute in Shahdara market. He suffered a serious head injury. Lawyers later accused the police of releasing the accused after accepting money, an allegation that has not been independently established. On October 24, another confrontation reportedly took place at Shahdara Police Station. According to ACP Manasvi Vashishth's complaint, Shahdara Bar Association Secretary Narvir Dabas arrived with 10-15 lawyers and allegedly misbehaved with then SHO Inspector Arun Kumar, threatened police personnel and obstructed official work. However, the lawyers made counter-allegations, accusing the ACP of misbehaviour and intimidating them by displaying his pistol. The ACP denied these allegations. On October 26, an FIR was registered against Narvir Dabas, Vishal Sharma, Vivek Pandey and others on the ACP's complaint. The charges included threatening a public servant and obstructing government work. The following day, lawyers launched a work boycott against the police. On October 28, Delhi Police transferred ACP Manasvi Vashishth from Gandhi Nagar subdivision to the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC). The then SHO, Inspector Arun Kumar, was transferred to the Security Unit. Lawyers reportedly withdrew their strike after receiving assurances that the complaints and FIRs would be investigated within two months. However, the transfers triggered resentment among lower-ranking police personnel. They alleged that police officers and constables frequently face misbehaviour and threats from lawyers inside court premises, but action is often taken against police personnel instead of those accused of misconduct. ACP Manasvi Vashishth had also written to Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar, seeking an Open House meeting to allow personnel to raise their grievances directly with senior officers. The protest has now turned into a major internal challenge for Delhi Police. The most striking aspect remains that police personnel are protesting against their own department, while their colleagues are being deployed to stop them. The key question is whether the allegations made by both sides will receive a fair investigation and why police personnel have been forced to raise their grievances outside their own headquarters.
