It’s hard to describe the feeling when you’re standing in the middle of the Georgian mountains, holding in your hands a piece of stone that used to be part of an ancient ocean.
You look closer — and realize it’s not just a rock, but a sea urchin or an ammonite that lived almost 180 million years ago.
The road from Batumi took about three hours. Hills, forests, tiny villages — and then the landscape opens up into wide valleys and red clay slopes filled with traces of prehistoric life.
Kirill, our guide from Take & Hike, told stories about how all this land once lay under the sea. His passion made every stone feel alive.
We searched for fossils together, brushed the dust off ancient shells, and listened to the sound of wind and water echoing through the canyon.
There was no rush — just quiet excitement, curiosity, and the strange peace you get when you touch something that has waited for millions of years to be found.
This trip wasn’t just about fossils.
It was about slowing down, noticing details, and feeling the Earth’s memory beneath your fingers.
