A brief last look at Westland Mall in Columbus, Ohio. It is slated for demolition, which will be happening any day now at the time of uploading this video. Here is the general history of this Mall, as well as corrections to what I said in the video: Westland Mall opened in 1969 as an open air mall. It originally anchored Sears, JCPenney, Lazarus, and Woolworth. The mall was enclosed in 1982. Woolworth closed in 1994 and was converted into Staples. JCPenney relocated from Westland, to The Mall at Tuttle Crossing, which opened in 1997. Lazarus was bought out and converted into Macy’s in 2003. The Macy’s then closed in 2007. The Mall itself closed for good in 2012. The Staples closed in 2015, leaving Sears as the last operating store at the mall all together. Sears then closed in 2017, leaving the whole mall empty. It will be demolished in Spring 2023, followed by a revitalization/redevelopment project for the property. Westland Mall was the newest of the original three malls in Columbus, Ohio. The three original malls: Northland Mall Opened 1964 Enclosed 1975 Closed 2002 Demolished 2004 Eastland Mall Opened 1968 Closed 2022 Abandoned as of 2023 Westland Mall Opened 1969 Enclosed 1982 Closed 2012 Abandoned, slated for demolition in Spring 2023 There is also a “Southland Mall” that opened in 1977. But it’s just a glorified shopping center, not an actual mall.
