Dad's Anniversary Cruise – They Booked Me in Cargo, Then The Captain Announced I Own The Fleet**

The Meridian Splendor gleamed white against the Miami port, all fourteen decks of her rising against the afternoon sky. She was one of our newer vessels—commissioned two years ago, capable of carrying 2,800 passengers in luxury. I'd personally overseen her design, from the maritime-grade steel to the hand-carved railings.
My family didn't know any of this.
"Maya, hurry up!" My sister Kenji called from the boarding line. "We want to get settled before the welcome reception."
I adjusted my simple backpack and followed them up the gangway. Mom and Dad were celebrating their fortieth anniversary with a seven-day Caribbean cruise. They'd invited the whole family—my three siblings, their spouses, their children. Twenty-two people total, filling a block of connecting staterooms on the Lido Deck.
Well, twenty-one people on the Lido Deck.
At the check-in desk, Mom handed over our booking confirmations. The attendant processed them with practiced efficiency, handing out key cards.
"The Nakamura family, welcome aboard! You have the deluxe ocean-view suites on Deck 11. Beautiful rooms with private balconies."
My siblings collected their keys eagerly. Then the attendant paused, looking at my paperwork.
"And Miss Maya Nakamura... you're in cabin 3147." Her professional smile wavered slightly. "That's on Deck 3, interior cabin."
