Last time, I tried buying 16 everyday grocery items at Loblaws with a budget of $75 CAD. The final bill was $87.96 — $12.96 over budget. This time, I'm taking the same challenge to No Frills in Toronto. The goal is simple: buy a similar basket of everyday groceries — breakfast, lunch & dinner, and snacks — while trying to stay under $75. I expected No Frills to do considerably better. But at checkout, the bill came to $88.57 — even higher than Loblaws. There's more to the result, though. One pizza I thought was priced at $4 rang through at $8.99, and some individual products were substantially cheaper at No Frills while others were actually cheaper at Loblaws. Final totals: Loblaws: $87.96 No Frills: $88.57 $75 budget: Neither store made it ❌ Excluding pizza and cheese, however, the No Frills basket came to $73.58 — 1.9% under the $75 budget, compared with $76.97 at Loblaws. So which supermarket actually gave better value? 📍 No Frills, North York, Toronto, Canada 🛒 Real shopping trip and prices paid 🎧 No commentary More Canadian grocery challenges, supermarket prices, drives and everyday Canada on Izak Strolls & Drives.
