The UK Spent HOW MUCH on Scratch Cards?! I Got The OFFICIAL Receipts

You won’t believe how much we spent on scratch cards last year – and I’ve got my hands on the official receipts to prove it! Welcome to the Scratchcard Gameshow. 🎬✨ A month or so ago, I submitted my first-ever Freedom of Information request to the Gambling Commission – the big wigs who keep an official eye on the National Lottery – and amazingly, they sent me every single figure I requested. So today, I’m revealing exactly how much cold, hard cash we spent on scratch cards in 2025. Now, frustratingly, the official data doesn’t show which individual games we played – but I wasn’t going to let that stop me! By tracking how many jackpots disappear each day using data published on the National Lottery website, I realised I could have a pretty good go at estimating it. So today, I’m also revealing how much I reckon we spent over the last seven days on the £1 💷 Fiver or Tenner, £2 🎡 Spin £100, £5 💰 £500 Loaded, and £5 🚀 Full of £1,000s. I worked them out by tracking the number of top prizes remaining on the National Lottery website between Thursday 30 July and Thursday 6 August, then multiplying the number claimed by the published jackpot odds for each game. As we don’t have access to the actual sales data, the estimates won’t be exact. Prizes won’t always be claimed straight away, and jackpots won’t be spread evenly throughout the stock – so this is the best way I have found of estimating how many cards may have been sold in that period. The overall 2025 sales figure and weekly average are different – they came directly from the Gambling Commission through my Freedom of Information request. I created the Scratchcard Gameshow for adults over 18, as a bit of fun and entertainment. It’s not here to promote or glorify gambling. As you’ll see, I nearly always lose money. That’s the reality of scratch cards: they’re a bit of fun, but most definitely not a way to get rich.
