The result is the Mission Efficiency: a near-production technology flagship that just set three world records, including a world-leading drag coefficient of 0.158 and an extraordinary real-world efficiency drive from Wolfsburg to Vienna. Volkswagen Mission Efficiency – Exploring the Limits How far can the efficiency of an electric vehicle be pushed? With the Mission Efficiency, we demonstrate the potential of combining advanced aerodynamics, an efficient electric drive system and consistent lightweight construction. The near-production concept vehicle is technically based on the MEB+ platform with front-wheel drive and uses numerous components from the new ID. Polo. During a record drive from Wolfsburg to Vienna, the Mission Efficiency set three world records. With a drag coefficient of Cd 0.158, the vehicle achieves a new benchmark for a road-legal automobile. During an officially documented 1,278.36-kilometre record drive, average energy consumption was 6.89 kWh/100 km without charging losses, or 7.51 kWh/100 km including charging losses. The journey from Wolfsburg via Poznań and Olomouc to Vienna was completed at an average speed of 67.72 km/h. The 54.9-kWh battery was charged only once. Upon arrival in Vienna, the vehicle still had a calculated remaining range of 164 kilometres. The Mission Efficiency combines an exceptionally streamlined body with an efficient electric drive, patented wheel deflectors, fully enclosed rear wheels, actively controlled cooling air flaps, a fully covered underbody and a 370-watt photovoltaic system. The concept is designed as a 2+2-seater and offers a variable luggage compartment with a capacity of up to 481 litres. The interior follows a minimalist lightweight design approach. Under the “Bring your own device” concept, a smartphone or tablet can serve as the vehicle's infotainment display.
