This mechanics of materials tutorial goes over an example of calculating normal stress in members with varying cross-sectional area. Please note there is a typo in the equation for each cross sectional area. I wrote/said 0.1mm and 0.2mm, when I should have written 10mm and 20mm. The cross sectional areas are correct, and were calculated off screen with 10mm and 20mm respectively. Sorry for the brain fart.
