I Believe In You (9), explores my experiences with the tune I Will Always Love You. This episode is a bit heavy, and more focused on my emotional life as a singer and my humanity, and less focused on my recovery. It's very relevant to my healing journey and I Believe it is necessary for me to address Dolly & Whitney; I don't think I'm unique in my feelings here. Regardless of what anyone does for a living, I think most people can relate to house hold names being in the forefront of their lives. The stars we know, love and cherish don't know us, but we sure feel like we know them. I do bring it back to the theme of belief in yourself, relative to Dolly's words. Dolly was a huge proponent of Believing In Yourself. Part of her life's work was lifting people up. Not only with her glorious music and voice and presence, but also through education and philanthropy. Her Imagination Library and The House That Whitney Built are two tremendous examples of Dolly walking the "I Believe In You" and "I Believe In Myself" walk. She first believed in herself to be able to fund The House That Whitney Built. If she'd handed her publishing over to the colonel, it never would have happened. Dolly had enough of a sense about herself to know, I Will Always Love You, would be the most important song in her catalogue. Dolly also knew to keep her publishing, no matter what mega superstar offered to cover it. Dolly believed in herself and she believed in the unsung scope of her hit. Dolly knew it would go further than she'd gone with it on the country charts, or when she placed it in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Dolly knew it's life was far from over. I don't think she knew it would be Whitney specifically who would blow it up, into one of the most recognizable pop songs of our time, but Dolly knew something big was on it's horizon. That's what I mean when I speak to everyone who's watching and listening about believing in yourself. As Dolly said, "You can do a lot with what you got" so much of it is belief in oneself. If you know in your heart of hearts that you're destined for something, for greatness, for something in the future, or something you've created is destined to have a huge splash, keep believing and that thing you're feeling will happen. I know you will heal yourself, I know you're destined to recover fully as am I. I know this terrific bump in the road is just a test. A test in your belief in yourself. I know when you come back fully, you'll have an even greater sense about yourself and a propensity to help others. I Believe In You, Dolly Parton Believes in You. Dolly is still talking to us, she's still reminding us to be the best versions of ourselves and to believe in each other. Don't give up, getting better is easier with friends.
