Could 10 million people live inside one rotating space city? In this deep dive into the science of space habitats, we build a megacity in orbit piece by piece to find out what it would really take to keep an entire nation alive inside a spinning structure far from Earth. We start with the physics of artificial gravity: how rotation creates weight, why the Coriolis effect and spin rate limit the size of a space station, and why hoop stress means a habitat cannot simply keep getting wider. We compare classic designs such as the O'Neill cylinder, the Stanford torus and the Bernal sphere, then design a layered drum large enough for 10 million people. From there, we explore the problems that only appear at megacity scale. There are billions of tonnes of radiation shielding, meteoroid strikes and pressure compartments, and trains that change your weight depending on which way they travel. Closed loop life support has to recycle air, water and waste. Agriculture must feed a nation. Power demands rival an industrial country, and waste heat may be harder to get rid of than anything else. We also look at the industry, mining and spare part manufacturing needed to keep the machine running, and at the medicine, governance, emergency planning and catastrophic failure modes that could threaten millions of people at once. Finally, we ask the biggest question of all. Is a city like this still a space station, or would it become humanity's first artificial world? Along the way, we check the latest real progress, from the ISS water recovery milestone to Vast's plans for Haven-1.
