Hi, it’s Susan with Prayeriewife Quilting! I’ve got a super fun project going today — ice dyeing quilting cotton for a quilt I’ve got in mind and it’s been a couple of years since I’ve done this technique. (See the sneak peak of the quilt on the design wall!) In this video: White and light gray 100% quilting cotton, pre-soaked in a mordant after washing in a special detergent Scrunched into a basket, topped with ice, and sprinkled with avocado green dye — but ice dyeing never gives you just one color, so watch for how it splits as it melts! The basket sits like this for 24 hours while the ice melts and carries the dye through the fabric, with an inverted basket underneath so the muddy water doesn’t soak back in I’ll rinse it with cold water, wash it with hot water and a special detergent, and show you the full reveal — I genuinely LOVE how this turns out! See the finished fabric and it cut in clamshells for a quilt. 🧡 Subscribe - I’ll be ice dyeing more batches of quilting cotton soon. #icedyeing #quiltingfabric #prayeriewifequilting #diyfabricdye
