Calle Morayta was named after Spanish writer Miguel Morayta, a supporter of the Propaganda Movement and founder of the Asociacion Hispano-Filipino. Born on Sept. 3, 1834, Morayta became Jose Rizal’s professor at the Universidad Central de Madrid. He died on Jan. 18, 1917. Calle Morayta was later renamed Nicanor Reyes Street after the founder of Far Eastern University. On December 5, 1988, the Manila City Government officially renamed Gastambide Street, the street bordering the back of the University of the East’s Manila Campus, into Francisco T. Dalupan Street. The street was renamed to honor UE Founder and First President Dr. Francisco T. Dalupan Sr., who had passed away in November 1987. With its several food stalls and eateries, dormitories, school supply shops, and such, Dalupan Street has become a part of every UE student’s story pre-pandemic. It is a place where students would gather after classes to swap stories or simply hang out. It is an area where they can share a meal with each other or let off steam.
