In this video, we solve a numerical problem on a Delaval steam turbine with equiangular blades, step by step, and find the speed ratio, velocity of steam from the nozzle, and blade speed for maximum utilization. Problem: In a Delaval steam turbine, the nozzle angle at inlet is 18°. The relative velocity is reduced by 6% at the exit as steam flows over the moving blades. The output of the turbine is 120 kJ/kg of steam. If the blades are equiangular, find (i) the speed ratio, (ii) the velocity of steam from the nozzle, and (iii) the blade speed for maximum utilization. Topics covered: Problem statement and given data Condition for maximum utilization factor in an impulse stage Blade friction coefficient and equiangular blade assumption Calculation of speed ratio for maximum utilization Relation between energy transfer, blade speed and nozzle velocity Calculation of velocity of steam from the nozzle Calculation of blade speed for maximum utilization Final answers and key points to remember for exams This video is useful for VTU Mechanical Engineering, B.E./B.Tech students studying Turbomachines, Fluid Machinery and Hydraulic Turbines. #Turbomachines #DelavalTurbine #ImpulseTurbine #SpeedRatio #MaximumUtilization #Numericals #VTU #MechanicalEngineering
