SOUNDBITE (English) Dean Caten, designer DSquared: ''What we have today is sort of a mix of three kinds of men. We have our pioneer, we have our biker, we have our grunge. So we are mixing these three guys together in a blender. What you see is a lot of layers, a lot of things tied around the waist.'' Dan Caten: ''A lot of black and white mixed with denim.'' Dean Caten: ''So he's kind of a cool, rebel pioneer, but there is that purity side of him too, there is a lot of white and black, there's hats on everybody, gloves on everybody, it's cold. It's our world.' Dan Caten: ''There is lots of layers. It's a very distinct message. It's straight forward, it's to the point. We kind of pushed it a little bit further for the show, but you know, there are pieces you can break them down. '' 4. Dean and Dan Caten, the designers closing the show STORYLINE DAN AND DEAN'S PIONEER COLLECTION Canadian designers Dean and Dan Caten brave the cold in their latest collection based on the rough and ready life of early American settlers. The twins behind the DSquared label raised the curtain on their winter menswear show Tuesday (18 Jan. 2011) to reveal a snow-laden hut immersed in the mountains. One by one, models emerged from the stage set wearing crumpled suits, rumpled shirts and beat-up boots. The collection of reassembled work wear was built around the apron, which in fashion terms becomes a vest. Heavy leather belts, suspenders and pioneer hats accessorized the look. Jeans, low slung and in wool denim are a winter must. Black, like the coal from a mine, is the preferred shade. As in many of the shows during the fall-winter 2011-2012 menswear preview showings which ended Tuesday, outerwear plays an important role in the collection. Shearling jackets and fur trimmed coats offer a fashionable way to keep today's gold digger warm.
