Family of 8 Skipped Seat Fees and Expected the Plane to Rearrange

A family of eight was waiting for my flight with several small children. Then I overheard the dad explain their seating situation. Their seats were scattered all over the plane because he deliberately chose not to pay extra for assigned seats. His solution? “We’ll switch around when we get on the plane.” In other words, save money on seat selection and then rely on complete strangers to rearrange their own seats so the family can sit together.
