An October afternoon on a houseboat on Dal Lake. An old man in a grey pheran sits at a carved walnut desk, writing slowly. There's a kangri of live coals warm at his feet and a samovar of kahwa on the side table. Outside the window, red chinar leaves float past on the water, and nobody is in a hurry. The music is a single santoor taking its time through Raag Bhimpalasi, the raga of the late afternoon. It's soft strokes and long, shimmering tremolos with plenty of quiet in between, all over the low hum of a tanpura. Now and then a bansuri breathes a few long notes and steps back. There's no tabla and no beat. The piece never builds to anything. It drifts and then comes home to its very first stroke, so the loop never jumps. The 1 hour video is the room by day, with a Pomodoro timer on the card and chapters for each work block and break. Leave it running while you write, read or study, and let the coals do the rest. The 3 hour video is the same cabin after dark: one hurricane lamp, the lake gone black outside, the embers still glowing. It's slower and darker, and it's made for drifting off.
