It was one of the most anticipated phones at this time period. N91 was part of the first trio of N-Series phones, together with the N70 and N91, but in a difference to them, it was the first shipped phone with new Symbian 9.1. It was described from Nokia as "next-generation multimedia devices" and the newly presented N-Series was described as a "High Performance Multimedia" series in their presentation. 🎶 Nokia N91 was quite unique because of two things: it was the first ever phone with 4GB internal memory in the form of a small mechanical microdrive. It wasn't the first phone with a mechanical drive; the first was the Samsung SGH-i300, but its drive was 3GB only. The microdrive itself was manufactured by Toshiba, and in the later model N91 8GB, its size was doubled. 💻 The display of the phone was maybe the most disappointing feature of everything - it uses "old" 176x208 resolution, and the interface really does not look good. Being the first Symbian 9.1 phone, but using the old Symbian 6/7/8 resolution makes it look rough - jagged edges, interface has been slightly modified, font size has been reduced, etc. N91 and 3150 were the only Symbian 9.1 phones that used this resolution. Every other Symbian 9 and above phone, uses at least QVGA (240x320), or 352x416. Maybe the delay in releasing the phone has something to do with this? Maybe Nokia was planned to use a bigger resolution display but didn't have time to properly implement it, and they "slapped" the old resolution technology instead due to the hurry to release it, we will never know.
