Budget 2026 LIVE: Chancellor announces £100 energy bill handout in 'breathing space' budget

Cuts to energy bills, minimum wage increases, and taxes on banks will dominate the chancellor's announcements in his first Budget today. It’s part of John Healey’s attempt to create “breathing room” for households facing the cost-of-living crisis. On Budget day, the chancellor announced that standing charges on gas bills will be scrapped from next year. MoneySavingExpert founder Martin Lewis said he was "pleased" the charge will be axed and expected further interventions on household bills. Healey is expected to continue the freeze on fuel duty and extend the warm homes discount. The chancellor is also reportedly planning to reverse the ISA allowance cut from £20,000 to £12,000. ---------------------- For more of the biggest news stories in the UK and around the world, visit the ITV News YouTube channel: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj   • Subscribe to ITV News In Full on YouTube:    / @itvnewsinfull    • Get breaking news and more stories at: http://www.itv.com/news   • Follow ITV News on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=... • Follow ITV News on Instagram:   /      • Follow ITV News on Facebook:   /      • Follow ITV News on X:   / itvnews
