The Entire History of Mexico City in 25 Minutes

The entire history of Mexico City in one 25-minute illustrated documentary — from its nomadic foundation in Lake Texcoco to the sinking megacity of 2026. Built on water through sheer engineering genius, Tenochtitlan became one of the grandest capitals of the pre-Columbian world, only to be dismantled stone by stone in 1521. Across five centuries, the Spanish empire and modern Mexico waged an relentless war against Lake Texcoco—surviving the devastating five-year flood of 1629, enduring the Porfirian drainage works, rebuilding after the catastrophic 1985 earthquake, and now battling the literal sinking of its historical foundations. Mexico City did not simply displace a lake; it built an empire upon a watery grave that refuses to be forgotten.
