Life in a Graveyard After Limb Loss: Shorouq's Story | الحياة في مقبرة بعد فقدان الأطراف: قصة شروق

Imagine waking up every morning to a graveyard outside your window. Imagine being a double amputee, trying to care for your only child, with no one there to help you. Shorouq doesn't have to imagine it - she lives it, every single day. Shorouq lost one leg to a direct strike. She lost the second not to the injury itself, but to an infection that went untreated - no access to adequate medical care, no antibiotics, no hospital bed. More than two years into the war in Gaza, and nine months since the ceasefire was declared, over 6,600 people have lost one or more limbs. Thousands are still surviving in unimaginable conditions, still waiting for the physical and psychological support they urgently need. At Restoring Hope Society (RHS), our team is working to reach everyone in need of rehabilitation and support. But severe restrictions on the entry of essential medical aid - wheelchairs, prosthetic components, and other critical rehabilitation supplies - mean that Shorouq, along with thousands of other amputees, still cannot get the care she needs. This should never have to be the case. Mobility, dignity, and independence shouldn't be something we have to beg for - they are a basic human right, not a privilege.
