Berseem (Egyptian Clover) is one of the most important fodder crops in Pakistan, providing rich nutrition for livestock during the winter season. Achieving maximum production from the first cutting is crucial, as it sets the stage for the crop’s overall yield and quality. Proper field preparation, timely sowing, and using high-quality seed varieties play a major role in ensuring strong initial growth and dense plant population. To get the best first cutting, farmers should ensure balanced fertilization—especially nitrogen and phosphorus—to support vigorous root and leaf development. Adequate moisture at germination and early growth stages is vital; hence, maintaining proper irrigation intervals can make a big difference. Weed control in the early stages also helps prevent competition for nutrients and sunlight, allowing Berseem to establish fully and produce lush green fodder. For maximum yield, the first cutting should be done at the right stage—usually 45 to 50 days after sowing—when the plants reach 40–50 cm in height and before flowering begins. Cutting too early or too late can reduce regrowth and affect subsequent cuttings. Following these management tips will ensure a heavy and nutritious first harvest, setting the foundation for multiple high-yield cuttings throughout the season. #berseem #cropreformer
