Nightmare Discord Announcement | Updated Essentials Showcase | Definitive Mod Overview

This video goes over various features of the mod that have been part of it since 2024-2025 but were largely misunderstood or obscured. It shows some new stuff, but a lot of it is small and won't make a big difference, like the Witch having 2 new subtle sound cues when she becomes alert, or the Howler heartbeat cue being more distinct, etc. The mod is mostly the same as it always been. It's just small quality of life features. Nightmare now has its own official Discord server (again). I feel like this needs some explanation, since most members of the previous server have no clue what even happened. To clarify, the previous server was deleted, but I wasn't the one who pulled the plug. Initially, that server was created by a Nightmare fan. We became friends and agreed to make it the official community for my mod, so he transferred full ownership over to me. Long story short, I later passed ownership back to him to establish mutual trust and truly make it 'our server. Skipping over the corny gayness, a lot of things happened over the last year or two. I delisted my mods a while ago, which I won't get into here - but that was basically the "push" this person needed to delete the entire server without asking permission or even notifying anybody. The only explanation I heard from him was, "Nightmare is gone, so what's the point of keeping the server?" And just like that, the server was gone. My only real issue is the slight inconvenience that all the fanart and other stuff we made there didn't get properly archived. Maybe this person just got upset at me for delisting my mods and decided to play the uno-reverse card, or maybe he was holding a long-time grudge, since now he's going around telling people the server belonged only to him and that I'm a horrible monster, yada-yada. I don't understand or care what the reason for this behavior is. There's too much history I won't get into. C'est la vie. My relationship with my own fandom has generally been abysmal. I can't count how many times I left that old server, only to rejoin later because I'd get bored or forget why I left in the first place. When I was in control of the server, I never cared to run it properly and mostly let others do it for me. If they wanted to ban someone, they did it. If they wanted to wipe the entire server and kick every member for the lulz, that was also perfectly normal and how it usually went. Apart from all the bad, there was definitely some good about the server that I liked. Mainly, it helped me meet people who were just fun to play games and interact with. I noticed how the server helped other people connect and make new friends too, and it was cool to see. If this new server can give people that same opportunity, then I think it's worth it. If the previous server got soured once, it doesn't mean it should stay nuked;   / discord   The new server is here to stay. Unlike before, it won't be mindlessly passed around or mishandled. I am creating this purely as a co-op hub to make it easier for both new players unfamiliar with Nightmare and old veterans to find matches and enjoy the game. Nightmare is designed strictly for co-op, but finding a partner can be extremely difficult. Often, if you ask for players on the L4D Reddit or Steam forums, you are likely forced to deal with walls of text about how awful Nightmare is, how horrible its creator is for not taking criticism, or endless e-drama. I realize that the issues with the old server were partially due to my own bs. So, I won't be as active in this one, nor will I try to create a strange hierarchy like before. This server is simply a co-op hub where I will occasionally post patch notes, keep my work properly distributed, and step in if something breaks. Although I do hope to leave Nightmare behind soon, so this is all really just gonna be mostly about maintenance. That's about it. (The only thing I do have to bring back from the old server, is probably the verification system, otherwise the server will get flooded quickly. You don't have to provide ID or give your life story; it's basically just a captcha to prevent potential bot spam and other issues).
